Hofland London Dry Gin

A nose like perfumed dish soap with citrus notes. Actually, it might be hand soap. Alcohol is present on the nose, giving it a dry aroma. The taste mirrors the dryness with some of that dish soap character reappearing alongside juniper. Hints of other botanicals are present but elusive, and there's a peppery sting. It's not fantastic, but it might work in a mixed drink. The dish soap taste is a drawback, though it's otherwise a functional budget gin. It appears to have more depth (and hand soap taste) than Dover, but less body. I'll need to revisit them to be sure which is superior, but their attributes seem alike for now.

Smell: juniper, coriander, lemon and lime peel, black pepper, anise, ginger, a slight to medium alcohol sting. Sip: juniper, mellow vanilla, coriander, lemon and orange peel, black pepper, ginger, anise, mint, a medium alcohol sting, concluding quickly with juniper, citrus, and anise notes. This gin doesn't offer much to discuss. It's a standard London Dry. The only distinctive element is the vanilla flavor. It introduces a touch of sweetness without being overly sweet, unlike Seagram's. Therefore, I find it quite usable and better than Seagram's, though not quite as good as Tanqueray and Beefeater.

The nose is rather unremarkable, featuring alcohol, a slightly savory note, and some juniper. The palate is acceptable, beginning with a viscous texture and some sweet richness, then introducing spicy juniper and a drying sensation. It's unexciting but functional. Unlike another spirit, this one genuinely tastes like gin, although it has excessive alcohol flavor and insufficient complexity. It's adequate and certainly suitable for mixing. I'm increasing its rating. While I might be scoring it a bit high at 11, it's surprisingly decent apart from the alcohol and lightness.

Mediocre gin, the alcohol flavor is a bit too sharp, and it lacks sufficient juniper.
