About this bottle

Hillrock Estate Double Cask Rye is made with organic rye cultivated at their Hudson Valley estate. The whiskey undergoes two maturation periods: first in new charred American oak, followed by white oak that was seasoned for two years before being assembled into barrels and filled. Master Distiller Dave Pickerell selected air seasoning to reduce potentially bitter tannins found in kiln-dried wood.

Blake Wilkinson 4.5

Starts sweet, then woodiness takes over in the middle and finish. Mid-palate to the end, I detect a hint of sweet tobacco and cedar. It resembles the wonderful scent of a humidor captured as a taste.

Lois Mcduffie 3.3

It has a dark, nutty brown color with subtle amber highlights. The aroma is of cinnamon with a hint of vanilla and a trace of stone fruit. Cinnamon is prominent on the tongue initially, then quickly yields to butterscotch, finishing with a peppery note.

Lorraine Stone 2.3

My tasting note is that it's overpriced... it lacks flavor and depth. The double cask process results in a taste that's more woody, overpowering the flavor notes, with just hints of apricot. It smells great, but the taste doesn't deliver.

Reid Lloyd 3.0

Not bad, but I would have expected more for the price point I've seen it for, up to $100. I got it on sale at Total Wine for $65, and even for that price, I would have anticipated more.

Gary Hilliard 4.5

Fantastic rye! Exhibits significant depth! I would choose this over Willett 4-year or Michter's. While not as good a value as the Woodford rye, this is still worth purchasing.

Kayleigh Jose 4.5

This is an outstanding rye, possessing immense flavor depth while managing to tame the typical fiery, spicy overload associated with rye. Exceptional.
