About this bottle

High West Bourbon is a blend of straight bourbons aged at least two years. The mash bills include 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley (from MGP Distillery) and 84% corn, 8% rye, 8% malted barley (from another undisclosed distillery). Other contractually undisclosed straight bourbons are also part of the blend. This bourbon is bottled at 92 proof and is non-chill filtered. The name and packaging were updated in 2022, but it is the same spirit previously known as High West American Prairie Bourbon.

Kerry Schuster 3.0

Aroma: reminiscent of butterscotch, buttered toast, or pumpernickel bread, with a minty quality. Palate: bready and not overly complex. Finish: lacks spice and drinks easily at its stated proof. Overall: I believe High West produces excellent products. They are widely available and reasonably priced. I make an effort to keep their range stocked.

Kendall Koehler 3.5

Received as a gift in a High West gift set. This was actually quite decent. Very easy to drink, smooth with a mild warming sensation. Lacks complexity, but I appreciated the honey on the nose leading to notes of cornbread, caramel, and subtle rye spice on the palate.

Miranda Bullard 3.0

Very classic! A bourbon for any occasion. Very smooth but not complex. Tastes of butterscotch with a hint of spice. Rather bland with a very short finish. A bit expensive for what it is. Purchased in NY in 2024-09 during a football trip.

Chandler Dalton 3.0

Honey, apple, baking spices, with an underlying rye character and bourbon sweetness. A hint of lemon zest lingers in the aftertaste. A delightful bourbon. Perfect for autumn. Also, a subtle touch of smoke, which is fantastic.

Camryn Noriega 4.0

Nose: Roses, caramel, sugar. Body: Cherries, vanilla, syrup. Finish: Mint, cinnamon, baking spices. A bit of chocolate. A very rich body, making for a highly enjoyable bourbon. It evokes comparisons to 1792, in a positive way.

Denice Boyce 4.0

Smoky aroma and flavor profile. It's smooth with a pleasant, moderate warmth on the finish. An easy-drinking spirit. Tasted at Bluebird Kitchen with a friend.
