About this bottle

This bourbon is produced using the sweet mash method, where all grain—composed of 73% corn, 19% rye, and 8% malted barley—is distilled fresh. This contrasts with the traditional sour mash method, which uses a portion of an older mash. The bourbon is matured in new, charred American oak and is bottled at 90 proof without chill-filtration.

I took my time reviewing this one, not realizing I hadn't yet. The last time I tried it, something interfered with my palate, making it taste off. But I'm back now. This bourbon's mash bill consists of 73% corn, 19% rye, and 8% barley. It is bottled at 90 proof, has no age statement, and I purchased it for $49.99 at Kelly Liquors in the Mountain Run shopping center. It presents a pleasing copper hue in the glass. NOSE: Smoky butterscotch, butter, and a scent reminiscent of a deciduous forest in summer. MOUTHFEEL: Smooth. TASTE: Honey, a touch of cinnamon, and a very subtle hint of oak. FINISH: Spicy oak that gradually transforms into red pepper. The finish has a medium length. SUMMARY: This whisky surpasses what the tasting notes might suggest. When I'm not focused on writing a review, I tend to perceive more from the whisky. The rating below better reflects its quality. RATING: On my personal scale, it achieves a 7, labeled 'Right Fine,' which is among my highest ratings. This is equivalent to 4.375 stars, 87.5/100, or 8.75/10.

90 proof. Composed of 73% corn, 19% rye, and 8% malted barley. Flavors include sweet corn, cinnamon, charred oak, brown sugar, apples, a thick texture, vanilla, oranges, apples again, glazed cherry donut, mixed nuts, and dried fruit.

Ola Graber 3.3

The nose presents light caramel, oak, and clove. The palate is caramel and cream, feeling somewhat thin. The medium finish features oak, vanilla, and a hint of coffee.

Charlee Hogue 4.0

From Seelbach's Day 9 tasting: A sweet nose and palate with caramel candy flavors, possibly some sweet biscuit notes. Quite enjoyable.

Precious Masterson 2.8

This is a bit too intense to sip straight, but it works well when prepared as Dan's Way. It's certainly sweet with prominent corn and oak characteristics.

Brenton Landis 4.3

It's very sweet with a peppery finish that makes it seem like it's higher proof, yet it remains smooth overall.
