Hamiltons Islay Blended Malt

Tasting blind after opening. It has a caramel, bitter vegetal aroma. Smoke is present initially but dissipates quickly in the glass. The taste is sweet with no alcohol burn. It begins with caramel popcorn and burnt toffee, then transitions to a paper-like note, finishing with hints of seaweed and road tar. Frankly, it's an unusual combination that feels somewhat disjointed, but no single element was unpleasant. I'll need to revisit it later to determine my final assessment. The mid-palate is almost excessively sweet.

The aroma is dominated by heavy peat smoke, brine, and caramel. On the palate, the smoky peat and sweet caramel notes clash. The finish is smoky and spicy. Adding a little water softens the peat smoke on the nose and harmonizes the palate, also slightly mellowing the finish.

Peat is the only flavor detected. Perhaps it would be helpful in blending with other drinks to impart a peaty smoke. It's not recommended for sipping solo.

A budget-friendly Islay option. However, superior alternatives exist.

A smoky and rather straightforward dram, suitable for cocktails.

It is not Lagavulin, but it doesn't cost a hundred bucks.
