About this bottle

Samuel Gulliver & Co. released this second English Single Malt expression to commemorate St. George's Day in 2020. It was created using two-row Concerto Barley from East Anglia, malted at Crisp's maltings in Norfolk, and then distilled at St. George's Distillery. The whiskey spent at least 10 years maturing solely in ex-red wine quarter casks and is presented at 47% ABV.

Interestingly, the aroma brought tequila to mind, a spirit I dislike. It's also very light, almost like water. I was uncertain about drinking it, but the taste was superior to the smell. Quite light and sweet with a very subtle hint of smoke in the finish. Sampled as part of a whisky advent calendar from Master of Malt.

Wallace Sellers 2.8

Strongly smoky, with several flavors I can't quite pinpoint. It evolves through multiple stages for me, which I generally find intriguing. Regrettably, the flavors don't quite harmonize, leaving me generally unimpressed.

Nose has a bit of peat, palate has some smokiness and cinnamon, with a hint of vanilla. Finish is smooth with a light burn, that leaves you a bit unsatisfied. Flavors sound like they would be good, but just not a fan of this whisky.

Nose: Spicy fruit, some caramel? Taste: Burnt caramel, is it? Can't get much from the beginning, the ending is good though, long and for sure the highlight.

Not unlike Gulliver’s travels, this dram is a wild journey. Lots of flavors, including leather, umami, pu’er, and smoke.

Melvin Mosley 0.5

Smoke and peat. I don't detect any other flavors beyond the immense amount of smoke.
