About this bottle

Grand Traverse Distillery emphasizes the use of regional grains and water for its house-made products. Their bourbon is crafted from 70% Michigan corn, 20% Michigan rye, and 10% malted barley. It matures for 3 years and 3 months in a climate-controlled rick house before being blended with Michigan Great Lakes water to 92 proof; it is also non-chill filtered. Kindly note: This bourbon has been discontinued and subsequently reformulated with new packaging.

[11.23.15] The tasting rooms in Michigan are quite special while they are available. I visited the Grand Traverse tasting room in Frankenmuth on a quiet Monday morning. It was just my father-in-law and me, allowing ample time for discussion over a $1 tasting. This spirit features a significant corn component and is certainly sweet, but the distillers' work with rye helps to moderate it. It feels very clean, with subtle spices and a late oak flavor. Given its quality and price, it shouldn't be diluted or mixed in cocktails. Enjoy it neat outdoors and appreciate it.
