About this bottle

The Glen Garioch range includes various aged expressions and vintages, often presented at a high cask strength. Vintage 1995, bottled in 2012 at 55.3% ABV, exemplifies this, having been matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks. This bottling signifies a shift in the Highland distillery's approach, as it was the final release to utilize peat smoke for their barley.

An outstanding find and among my top five. A weighty texture from the cask strength but not sharp. The official tasting notes mention breakfast items like pancakes and syrup, which are accurate, but they miss the significant smoky punch at the end that gives it character. Layered and intricate yet approachable. Happy I purchased two bottles.

- Aroma // sweet spice - ginger, vanilla/toffee/caramel, apple/pear, apricot, nutty - Taste // caramel/vanilla, spice, licorice, fruit - apple/apricot - Finish // slightest hint of smoke, oaky, caramel/vanilla, perhaps apple?, pepper This improved significantly as it was left to sit and open up.

Still having trouble distinguishing between peaty and smoky. It says lightly peated but seems just tasty to me. Pancakes filled with layers of baked bananas and toffee sauce???? Who writes this stuff on the label? I just taste strong alcohol content and really nice flavor.

Wendy Ahn 4.0

Ripe melon, toffee, and oak on the nose. Medium-bodied, with grapefruit, papaya, guava, licorice, and baking spices on the palate. The finish is spicy, citrusy, and of moderate length. Complex, delicious, and worth sampling.

Anthony Nunes 4.0

Orchard fruits on the nose, a numbing and tingling sensation on the palate with an extended fruit finish. Wow! Pretty enjoyable.
