Gibson's Finest Sterling

Nose: Lemongrass zest and pear nectar, spring water, some cloves and zesty nutmeg, preserved fruits (apples, pears, oranges), maraschino cherry, a touch of red licorice, some perfumed cologne notes, a hint of light cream, a whisper of zesty oak and maple, some peppermint, some ginger and sweet tea, pencil shavings, a whisper of rye grain, some sweet vanilla and caramel. Palate: Sweet rye spice, canned fruits in syrup (peaches, pineapple, apple, pear, grapes), sweet cream, a warm but not hot cinnamon, slight wood bitterness, maple syrup infused oak wood, dill, some caramel apple. Finish: Sweet tea, some maple, a whisper of wood bitterness, white grape skins, some nutmeg and clove, a hint of rye bread, some caramel.

Considering it's an inexpensive Canadian whisky, this performs quite well. It's not thrilling but is straightforward and sweet. Given its very low cost, it doesn't feel like it's overreaching. Definitely a suitable cheap whisky for cocktails. It's also palatable on its own.

Although technically a lesser scotch than Gibson's 12 Year Old, I favor the Sterling. I believe it's due to the Sterling being somewhat fruity, much like the 18 Year Old, which I really appreciate in a scotch.

There's nothing noteworthy here; don't bother. The bottle itself is attractive though.

Extremely dull. Not awful, just lacks aroma, discernible flavors, and finish.

Pleasant, light flavor. More flavorful than typical Canadian whisky.
