Continuing my series of Foursquare rums, I'm trying their Indelible. It's a blend of pot and column rums aged for 11 years in a mix of American oak ex-bourbon and Californian Zinfandel wine casks, before being bottled at 48% ABV. The aroma is gentle and subtle, starting with powdered sugar-dusted strawberries, pineapple, and toasted coconut. It progresses to caramelized bananas and milk chocolate-covered hazelnuts, followed by raspberry syrup, mangoes, and apricots, culminating in light polished oak with no ethanol burn. The taste has a thin to medium mouthfeel. It begins with powdered sugar-dusted strawberries, pineapple, and toasted coconut, then a mild spice that rapidly fades to espresso, honeycomb, and dark chocolate-covered hazelnuts. This is followed by raspberry syrup, mangoes, and plantain chips, transitioning to light leather and polished oak with minimal ethanol burn. The finish is short to medium in length, featuring dark chocolate-covered toasted coconut, caramelized bananas, dehydrated raspberries, and light polished oak. This is a soft and subtle rum. The Zinfandel casks have imparted subtle red berry notes alongside the tropical fruits and well-aged oak. All the flavors integrate harmoniously, but the intensity of the flavors is unfortunately less than I would prefer. Nonetheless, it's a delicious, easy-drinking, and well-made rum that would likely be ideal for those exploring craft rums that are not bottled at high proof. Thanks to a friend for the generous sample.

About this bottle
This limited edition release is the seventeenth in the distillery's Exceptional Cask Selection series. It is a blend of two rums distilled using both pot and column stills. One component was aged for at least 11 years in ex-bourbon casks, while another spent 5 years in ex-Zinfandel wine barrels. The rums were then combined and further aged together for an additional 6 years in ex-bourbon barrels. It was bottled in September 2021, with no additives, at 48% ABV.

The nose presents faint coconut, molasses, and candied pineapple, opening up to a rich pineapple upside down cake or sugar-soaked sweetness. The taste is indulgent pineapple and coconut, like biting into fresh pineapple followed by toasted coconut chips. It's warming with slight hints of vanilla and caramel.
Smells of brown bread, toasty toffee, roses, red wine, and baked apples. Tastes of the barrel mostly: wine and bourbon spice, along with bright sugar. Finishes with the dry grassiness of a sugarcane rum.
This expression presents a more pronounced oak character than the original Foursquare Zinfandel cask bottling. While the Zinfandel notes are detectable, they are quite faint and lack the vibrant fruitiness of the initial release.
The nose has mild, funky notes of dates and coconut husk. The palate offers unsweetened coconut oil, molasses, nougat, red wine oak chips, and melon rind. It finishes with drying minerality and soft vanilla.
Nose: French fries, vanilla ice cream. Palate: Biscuits, smooth vanilla. Finish: Extended and warming.
