Foursquare Empery, released in December 2018, marks the ninth release in the brand's Exceptional Cask Series. This single blended rum originates from the Foursquare distillery and combines both column and pot still distillates. Empery specifically blends two distinct 14-year-old rums. The first rum spent its entire 14 years aging in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fill ex-bourbon casks. The second rum was aged for 10 years in similar casks before spending its final 4 years in ex-oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at 56% ABV with no added sugar or other additives.

The nose brings notes of fruit past its prime, vanilla, caramelized sugar, and alcohol. This rum feels smooth and coats the palate completely. It strongly suggests a dessert like baked banana or vanilla flan. These mingle with fruit notes, but they are intense and dark, reminiscent of very ripe bananas.
The nose is filled with bourbon and alcohol notes, along with sherry sweetness and dark fruit. Wow, the flavor is intensely bourbon-forward – too much for my preference. It has subtle sherry undertones, but a strong alcohol burn persists in the finish. This rating is based on sipping it neat.
The higher alcohol content significantly influences this rum's aroma. The palate offers some sweet molasses flavor, but it's followed by a rapid burn. Adding a little water improved it considerably.
This is possibly the finest rum ever made. I can't fathom the other reviews. It's like a marriage of rum, bourbon, sherry, and armagnac, and it's magnificent.
