Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin

The sheer abundance of sampling opportunities is a first-world issue impacting my liver. Following a Benriach tasting and another distillery comparison, I encountered free gin samples after my kids' cricket practice. I initially passed on this, assuming it was sloe gin, but was pleasantly surprised. The Shiraz barrel aging was fantastic; I could drink it straight. Red wine and gin make an amazing combination, though I suspect the next morning might tell a different story. I recommend trying and buying with confidence, though I'm unsure where that pretentious phrase originated. Update: I purchased a bottle and experimented with various tonics. While citrus was suggested, I preferred a traditional gin flavor with minimal citrus, finding it paired well with standard East Imperial tonic. My rating with tonic is around 3.75 to 4. I think Method and Madness and Roots are better with tonic. Update 2: I'm leaning towards more traditional gins, as I find myself avoiding this one and reaching for others. It doesn't blend as well with tonic as other gins, and I no longer enjoy it neat; the novelty has worn off.

This gin is dangerously drinkable straight. The concept is excellent and well-executed, but I prefer gins with more versatility. Tonic or soda water tends to spoil it, in my opinion, so I won't be purchasing this again.

A 2021 vintage offering with dried fruit, wine-like barrel wood, and gingerbread spice on the palate. It finishes with gin-like juniper and herbs, reminiscent of an alcohol-infused fruitcake in the best possible way.

The distinct flavors of gin and Shiraz are both evident, creating complexity while harmonizing. The wine contributes a deep, rich plum taste alongside the gin's floral, juniper notes.

A lovely gin with prominent fruit notes. This great gin is perfect for sipping or for making a richly flavored Negroni.

Heavy cherry, raspberry, and plum presence. Has a syrupy quality. Drinkable neat like a scotch.
