It's surprising there aren't more reviews for this. Let's take a look. Nose - Right from the start, it has a fantastic aroma. Huge red fruit notes, rich sweetness, and the rye offers a profile similar to Michter's Barrel Proof Rye with its red fruits and developing spice. Then, I detect a rough oak characteristic reminiscent of cheap bourbon... I dislike this bourbon note. It seems to be the same inferior bourbon used in Old Sherry Pike. However, that's the sole imperfection here. Overall, it has a very Christmas-like character. But that chestnut oak element is quite prominent. Taste - Now I'm picking up a bit of the spicy stave effect common in Four Gate whiskies, which isn't my favorite note, but it works well here. Thankfully, the rich, spicy rye masks the unruly bourbon. The port and rye have harmonized beautifully, creating a blend of Christmas and sweet port flavors. I keep expecting sherry (which isn't present) to bring chocolate notes? Then I get some caramel that seems to originate from the bourbon. Overall - It's substantial, bold, and full-bodied, incorporating elements I enjoy from some sherry-aged spirits, alongside off-notes. Adding water improves the nose but accentuates the overly young bourbon character. This is challenging to rate. The overall experience is great, despite the flaws and some youth that detracts from it. The rum might be contributing to the rye notes I perceive, but my knowledge of rum isn't extensive enough to pinpoint its influence. The port is quite good without being overpowering. It's remarkably well-balanced considering the extreme combination of rye, rum, port, and bourbon... it shouldn't blend this well. Okay, a score of 3.25, perhaps slightly generous given the price, but I'm happy with it. I wouldn't purchase a backup bottle.
