Forty Creek Founder's Reserve

Experts have perfectly rated Founders Reserve at an 88. The aroma of this whisky is quite potent. For some reason, I detect peat. The texture in the mouth is somewhat thin. A distinct tobacco note stands out for me personally. I concur that a 3 out of 5 rating is appropriate based on its smoothness, mild complexity, and 45% ABV. Reading online reviews, I found one that made me laugh while I was writing this. It stated, "The tonsils are whacked gently by the higher than normal alcohol strength of the whisky." I'm unsure what the author means by being hit in the tonsils; however, moving from 40.5% ABV to 45% ABV isn't a significant difference. If you prefer drinking whiskies above 45% ABV, you might consider yourself a novice. A rye below this threshold lacks sufficient complexity to warrant a higher score. Drinking Founder's Reserve is commendable for its decent taste, yet the attractive bottle and box don't compensate for the missed opportunity to enhance its impact with a slightly higher alcohol percentage. It's a great dram for dedicated fans, but it's not one I'll repurchase. It simply doesn't have that extra kick I'm looking for.

It's overpriced for its quality. It's not bad, but... Consider Michter's Rye, Pendleton, Crown Royal Special Reserve, or Lot 40 instead.
