Single Barrel, 57.55% ABV, aged 3 years and 10 months. An unusual aroma: but after careful consideration, I detect molasses, freshly cut hardwood, baking spices, and young corn. Taste: hot alcohol burn, sweetness, young corn whiskey. Finish: caramel, some oakiness after comparing it to EW Single Barrel. It resembles Evan Williams Single Barrel.
It hits hard with a strong alcohol flavor and a rough aroma that stings with ethanol, obscuring more delicate notes. It's not excessively sweet, but the harsh burn overshadows everything, making it difficult to sip. It's better suited for mixed drinks than drinking straight. It's bold, but its character is somewhat unrefined.
It smelled and tasted like a basket of fruits. Strong apple and berry notes were present, with slight honey and deep caramel. As expected, being a wheat, it was sweet even with the high proof. It would have been hard to guess the proof. The finish had some dark oak notes to give it a bit more variety.
The alcohol was overpowering and any complexity that might have been present was flattened by a mellow profile lacking complexity. It was heavy on wheat and light on rye. The 4 grain mash was sourced from local farms in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.
