At $49 including tax, I anticipated at least one remarkable characteristic — be it the aroma, the body, or the complexity of the finish. Sadly, none of these were present. The aroma is exceptionally subtle. I detect a very faint, light sweetness, more akin to diluted sugar water than caramel or vanilla. Even deeply inhaling from the glass, there's very little aromatic presence. Alcohol is detectable, but it's gentle and not sharp. The problem isn't an alcohol burn; it's the overall lack of scent. The taste mirrors this theme. A light sweetness appears briefly upfront, then quickly gives way to oak. The spice is mild and understated. A slight tannic dryness emerges early and remains controlled. The finish leaves a subtle peanut shell note — not roasted peanuts or peanut butter, but more the dry, papery husk. It's clean, but not memorable. This is not a flawed bourbon. It's well-balanced and technically sound. However, it seems designed to be inoffensive rather than distinctive. There's no depth, no vibrancy, and no developing complexity. To me, this tastes like a Kentucky bourbon priced at $15–20, with a narrative premium attached. If this bottle consistently delivers this profile, I would not buy it again at this price. It might perform better in cocktails or as a casual drink, but as a straight sipper, it lacks sufficient character to justify the cost. This is just my honest impression — your experience may differ.
