Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon (Fall 2013)

It delivers a consistent warmth throughout the palate, which I appreciate. Notes of spice, leather, and cherries. A smooth finish. A very good bourbon, but for me, this bottle labeled Spring 2013 doesn't justify its price. My scale: 1 - I’m giving this drink away 2 - I’ll mix it, but doesn’t stand on its own 3 - Enjoyable, but I’m willing to try something new 4 - Very good, If it’s on the shelf or menu - I’m buying 5 - Greatness Achieved, this drink is worthy of collecting

—Completely different from Eagle Rare 10— just to be clear. This bears more resemblance to Thomas Handy, though slightly drier. It's intricate and comforting. Nose: Campfire s'mores, toasted chestnuts. Palate: Subtle, dry vanilla, berry, unsweetened dark chocolate, hazelnut. Finish: Dry, light oaky caramel. It's quite good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to obtain a bottle.

Clearly beyond my ability to fully grasp (due to complexity)! Yet, it's challenging to analyze because it's so well-balanced, actually dissolving in the mouth. Likely the most effortlessly drinkable bourbon I've had the pleasure of experiencing.

Excellent, truly excellent, though not as good a value as the 1792. Incredibly smooth, though.

This whiskey definitely has notes of English breakfast tea and cherries, which I appreciate as a tea enthusiast!
