Dragon's Milk 5 Year Origin Small Batch Bourbon

This is unlike any bourbon I've experienced before. I first tried it neat, then transferred it to a large sphere ice mold and allowed it to rest. Initially, I detected the spice on the palate but no burn on the way down. There's definitely a vanilla wafer flavor at the beginning, followed by a stone fruit taste at the end. This is the first unflavored spirit I've tasted that genuinely evokes apricot on the finish. I don't get it from the aroma, but the initial sip made me exclaim "Wow" due to the stone fruit conclusion. The large sphere immediately reduced the spice and amplified the stone fruit and wafer notes. While it's not my usual bourbon choice, I find it very pleasurable and will be something I offer to friends with the comment, "Hey, this is unusual, you should try it," and I'll save it for occasions when I desire something different. The price isn't terrible, but it's certainly more than I spend on my regular drams. I wouldn't pay more, but it's a fair price for what it is. The bottle is a definite conversation starter and one I'll keep after it's empty! I intend to find a way to showcase it. I'm currently organizing my home office and would like to install shelves to display interesting bottles like this one.

On the nose, nothing stands out except for some gentle berry notes. Tasting brings forth flavors unlike anything I've encountered before. Abundant rich berry and grape flavors, with stone fruit also coming to mind. The fruit flavors give way to a slight spice and a shorter finish. It's a thinner whiskey that's almost too easy to drink, but if you appreciate lots of fruit or new and unique flavor profiles, this is the one for you. It's truly unlike anything I've ever had. The bottle also looks great.

It's like vanilla cream layered over fresh berries. Remarkably rich for the lower alcohol content. Tastes like a bourbon that typically retails for over $60, yet I only paid $45. This is especially true given the 5-year age statement. I've encountered numerous MGP-sourced spirits costing much more that are only 3 years old or younger. An excellent choice for regular enjoyment.

I received this as a present and the bottle looks really cool! That alone almost justifies the purchase. The bourbon itself is acceptable. It has a somewhat fruity taste to me, but the finish is quite harsh. I'm glad to have this in my collection, but it's likely not something I'd drink daily.

Starts with a sharp rye sensation that softens into sweet, fruity caramel notes. A trace of the beer barrel is present mid-palate, finishing with a warm spice. Overall, it's a bit more intricate and makes for a good, slightly spicy sipper. A solid selection for a whiskey at a moderate cost.

It has the typical beer barrel taste found in their other products, perhaps slightly less pronounced. There are spice notes with citrus, some floral or grassy elements. Caramel can also be discerned. There's quite a lot going on, and it's distinctive.
