Doorly's 8 Year

As a newcomer to rum, this being my third ever tasted, it's my top choice. Coming from a background of collecting bourbon and whiskeys, I'm surprised and pleased by the affordability and availability of older vintage rums. This particular one, for instance, cost $19.99 at Total Wine. It served as a fantastic introduction to rum, enjoyable both neat and on the rocks. Despite being only 80 proof, it produces long, oily legs when ice is added, and unlike lower proof aged spirits, it doesn't present as thin, watery, or heavily alcoholic. If you can get your hands on this for $20 and want to experience something beyond Bacardi, I strongly endorse this bottle.

Woody with caramel and vanilla notes, possibly some red fruit underneath. Not particularly sweet. Provides a reliable, high-quality, and expected, though not intricate, drinking experience. Suitable for sipping, and in my opinion, shines in a rum Old Fashioned.

It's not bad; it actually has some depth and isn't sweet at all...
