Door County Single Malt Whiskey

[10.6.22] We celebrated family photos with my in-laws tonight over pizza and whiskey from their recent travels. You'd be lucky to have in-laws like these - they're the best. I must say, after this one, I'm completely captivated by whiskeys from the Lake Michigan region. First the Grand Traverse Islay Rye (excellent), then the Eastern Kille Breakfast Rye (nearly finished it in one sitting), and now this. "Mellow" is the right word – perhaps it's the constant variations in humidity and temperature in the area affecting barrel aging? It's a sweet, oaky vanilla, with minimal floral or leather notes, low tannins but an underlying layer of spice. A truly fine spirit, at least the sample I had was.

Nose: Sugar, molasses, and a powerful floral scent Mouthfeel: Slightly thin but coats the palate well Taste: Like burying your face in a flower arrangement, the sweetness nearly disappears, replaced by an intense floral flavor. Finish: A touch of sugary sweetness appears, along with a hint of vanilla. Overall: It's acceptable, though I'm uncertain if it's worth the $20/350ml price. I'm always open to trying local products occasionally; I'm not significantly disappointed. I rate this a 4. It lacks complexity and exceptional flavor. It's simply present. A thin, sweet floral dram without much depth.

I'd forgotten I bought this during a trip to Door County, WI. It was stored away on a pantry shelf. I opened it, took out the cork, poured a bit, and was impressed! It's light and sweet. My partner enjoys it, which is uncommon. The only downside is the small bottle size, and Door County is quite a distance away.

Easy to drink and quite sweet. Malty with a touch of brown sugar. Hints of oak and char.
