Dewar's 12 Year has received an update, with this new version released in September 2022. Dewar's Master Blender Stephanie MacLeod developed this whisky, which, like prior versions, is a blend of up to 40 single malt and grain whiskies. This updated expression also undergoes a secondary aging process in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels. The refreshed packaging includes an updated label and a clear glass bottle to signify the new iteration. The suggested retail price is $29.99.

A blind whiskey tasting with associates. This was the sole Scotch among 11 whiskies, implying I might be rating it a bit high, but it was a welcome diversion from the bourbons and ryes. It presents fairly typical blended Scotch flavors and was preferable to a recent tasting of Dewars Portuguese. It was also more flavorful than anticipated for only 40% ABV. I would be open to trying it again.
This is a definite step down from the previous batch. The delightful fruit saturation is absent. It has malt, oak, and classic scotch notes, but the grain character is very pronounced and eliminates it from future purchases. It's cheaper, but JW Black or Chivas 12 are significantly better. It's not bad, just not worth my time, in my opinion... 76/100... Save your money for something superior.
Smells of caramel and vanilla, with a hint of dried and ripe fruit combined, not very profound. Taste: pleasant caramel, fruit, and grain or cereal notes. It has a slightly fiery touch at the end, with pepper, ash, and oak. The ex-bourbon barrel is clearly noticeable. It's not the worst and is similar to JW Black or other drinks in the same price bracket.
The new Dewar's 12 year old Scotch Whiskey has strayed off course attempting to attract bourbon fans in the United States.It smells of caramel and oak. The taste is smooth, featuring caramel and oak. The finish is brief, with notes of bitter grapefruit and oak.It disappears in drinks, offering no discernible taste even with a Scotch And Soda.
Mini Dewar's tasting! Nose: Distinct citrus/orange peel with a gentle smoke, and a pleasant oaky char/vanilla. Palate: Spicy black pepper, citrus peel, nice oak tannins, vanilla, a moderate gentle smoke throughout. A nice touch of honey. Finish: Slightly drying, a little tannic.
Smells like lemon zest, beeswax, cedar, dried herbs, cooked pear, and dried plum. Fairly light and soft on the palate. Tastes of lemon zest, beeswax, dried plum, and cedar, with hints of vanilla and honey. The finish is quite smooth and has good duration. 3.50/5.00 – Impressive (neat)
