Initially, you get the expected rye flavors, which then transition to black licorice on the finish. It's not unpleasant, but if you dislike vermouth, you likely won't enjoy this. As usual, I drank it neat.

About this bottle
Maintaining the same mash bill as their standard rye (80% rye, 15% malted barley, 5% malted rye), this expression is aged for 6 to 9 months in 15-gallon white oak quarter casks. Subsequently, the whiskey is moved to barrels that previously held Quady Vya Sweet Vermouth from California. It remains in these vermouth barrels for an additional 6 months before being bottled.

Harsh and biting. It required a sweet addition to mellow it. I tried it because I'm a big admirer of Vya Vermouth. I should have checked the reviews beforehand.
The aroma was unpleasant, with notes of black licorice and band-aid. The taste is much better, featuring prominent but not overpowering notes of vermouth. A very solid offering, and my first time trying this brand.
Nose is very rye-like, with floral and sweet notes. The vermouth influence is present. It's smooth and sweet. While enjoyable on its own, it would likely excel in a cocktail. 7/6/18
Nose: Hardly any scent, if at all. Palate: Quite sweet before reaching an herbal flavor. The vermouth is probably responsible; either way, it's awful. Finish: Bitter and medicinal.
Sweet aroma, like damp leaves and light vanilla. It drinks smoothly, and the vermouth barrel finish is noticeable. Spice is present both at the beginning and end.
