I've sampled nearly every Crown Royal release over the last four decades, and I was really looking forward to this one. I went through the motions of smelling, tasting, and swirling – all the techniques I've picked up for appreciating a first try. I found it quite smooth, but largely lacking in flavor. After the initial sip, I added a few drops of water. It didn't help. Then I tried ice, which completely ruined it. I imagine it's intended for sipping neat, and it's likely good for that. That's not typically how I prefer my whisky, so I'll pass.
