Combier Liqueur d'Orange

While not the most affordable triple sec, it surpasses most others and is arguably worth its price. Orange blossom is the initial aroma, accompanied by faint lemon zest. As expected, it's very syrupy, yet dry, perhaps not to the Cointreau level but close, with citrus peel and a hint of bitterness. The finish is brief, featuring orange zest and a touch of sweetness. It doesn't quite match Cointreau, but then again, few do. However, for any cocktail requiring triple sec, this bottle is a far better choice than many alternatives.

This is enjoyable. Next to different orange liqueurs, it's slightly more tart and perfumed, but I usually appreciate the depth it brings to a beverage. I often find myself reaching for it instead of Ferrand dry curaçao, which is the popular choice among mixologists. It's somewhat challenging to locate, but it's quite inexpensive if you manage to find it. You can't make a mistake.

Served: Neat, Gibraltar Bottle Open: Same Day Aroma: Intense ethanol with mild citrus. Flavor: Exceptionally smooth. Simple orange flavor, not zest. Appears less potent than its stated alcohol content. Lower acidity than luxardo. Combined with its absence of pith, this makes it more enjoyable without ice.

Intense orange flavor without excessive sweetness or coloring. Use half or three-quarters of the usual amount in mixes and adjust sweetener as needed.
