I admit I'm drawn to attractive packaging, and this Cassius Clay Straight Bourbon delivers with its cool mini cannon stopper! Introduced in October 2015, this distillery is a newcomer to craft distilling in the Tennessee/Kentucky area. The nose presents mild caramel, molasses, and ethanol; not the most inviting aroma I've encountered, but certainly not the worst. It offers a warm mouthfeel, typical for 100 proof, and I detect a pleasant candied apple tartness. The finish is medium, and overall, it's a decent pour. I'd rate it a solid 85/100 and am eager to see future releases from this distillery.

The aroma is unremarkable. The initial taste is harsh. Adding a splash of water significantly improves it. Then, a light almond and caramel note emerges, leading to a cinnamon spice finish. It tastes quite young, with a brief finish. Overall, I'd suggest spending a bit more for something with greater depth. Might be suitable for cocktails.

Bought this two months ago in Kentucky. The tasting notes remain light almond, vanilla, and cinnamon-like flavors. I enjoy it but am curious to see how it develops after another year or two (if it lasts that long!). I'd rate it highly.

Very hot, which hides the flavors. A lot is happening here. I might need to dilute it and revisit it.

Adding an ice cube definitely softens the sip.
