Canadian Club Chronicles 44 Year

As mentioned in my tasting notes, this was a very generous gift from a dear friend. I'm very much looking forward to tasting this in detail. It has a lovely golden amber color with impressively thick-looking legs. Aroma: A classic Canadian whisky aroma, but amplified. Maple, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar... There's a touch of baking spices like nutmeg and a hint of overripe dark fruits, especially plums. Palate: This is not nearly as sweet as the aroma suggested. There's a very brief touch of semi-sweet maple syrup, but more like the maple sap directly from the tree. Unlike another spirit I tried, this one has a significant amount of spice and tannins that almost immediately electrify the sides of the tongue. Black pepper introduces the grand finale. Finish: LONG! There's a strong tannic sensation that tingles on the back sides of the tongue for a while. There's a bitterness that lingers, especially on the back of the soft palate, which I enjoy. I'm not sure, but it seems there might be a deep red wine or port influence somewhere in this spirit. Overall, this is spectacular. The aroma suggests sweetness and richness, but the palate is a delicious contrast to this expectation. I often find Canadian whisky too rich and sweet (perhaps too polite, like my Canadian counterparts), but this one is truly bold and spicy. Thank you again to my friend for this spectacular spirit!

Aroma: subtle, tart red fruit, light caramel, oak, and vanilla Flavor: the red fruit and caramel intertwine before the alcohol emerges, revealing a bloom of red fruit and rye spice. The flavors are gentle and balanced, not overwhelming or clashing. Finish: an extremely long finish, with the dominant sensation being the lingering notes of red fruit and rye spice. It remains on the back of your tongue and throat for minutes.
