Bulloch Lade's Blended Scotch Whisky

I found this whisky at a newly opened liquor store in Washington D.C. that seemed to have acquired the inventory of a closed business. The bottom shelf held a few older blends, and this was among them. Bulloch Lade stopped production in 2007, but I decided to document it in case you happen to find a bottle and are curious if it's worth drinking. Nose: Fresh. Hay. Hints of lemon, honey, and green apple. Palate: More honey and some lavender. Apple juice. Quite viscous for a blend. Finish: A mix of honey and red and green apples. Slightly bitter from grain alcohol. A whiff of peat. Quite short overall. Overall: Clearly intended for mixing as it lacks a strong character, though it would hold up well in a scotch and soda or a Rusty Nail. I understand that Caol Ila was a significant component in Bulloch Lade, which makes me wonder if it gets some of its body and the whiff of peat from the elusive non-peated version of Caol Ila (or if there's actually only a small amount of the peated version in it). It's a pretty decent blended whisky, really, and each time I tried it, it was better than I anticipated for something so inexpensive. It's similar to a less-smoky J&B. The discontinuation of Bulloch Lade isn't exactly a tragedy, but, at this price point, it is a loss.
