About this bottle

The U.S. Distilled Spirits Institute, Inc. certified this whiskey as Kosher. In 2012, new American oak Kosher barrels were acquired by a non-Jewish Buffalo Trace executive and filled with whiskey made from a rye mash bill. By April 2021, the bottling equipment was cleaned to prevent any non-Kosher spirits from contacting the aged rye. This limited availability bottling will be sold prior to Passover 2022, with a new release to follow this Jewish holiday.

Claudia Reis 3.3

The aroma is quite strong, with rye grains, cinnamon, lemongrass, lime, hay, and nutmeg. On the palate, we find honeyed whole wheat bread, the cinnamon and nutmeg from the nose, some tea leaf, citrus, and not much else. It's rather flat and simple. The flavors lack impact or depth. The finish is pure black pepper; this is very peppery. After the pepper subsides, a hint of mint appears. The finish is long but so monotonous it's almost irritating. The mouthfeel is on the thinner side. This is a very average to below-average rye, and by far the weakest of the Kosher range. It's not terrible, but there's simply nothing remarkable about it. It's not particularly herbaceous, nor does it possess the delightful warm snickerdoodle sweetness found in some ryes. I paid $70 since I can never locate a bottle, but even at a retail price of $40, I would hesitate to suggest it. Drink it and forget it.

Delia Donovan 5.0

This is the best of the three Kosher 2021 bottlings. It is nicely balanced.

Orion Burch 3.5

Consumed at Forbici. Nice warmth with a clove presence.
