Buchanan's Two Souls

Buchanan's is typically a pleasant blended whisky, and now they've launched a new experiment, finishing their standard whisky in casks that previously held Tequila Don Julio. So, how did the tequila finish affect the whisky? That's what I'm about to explain, but first, let me state that I'm not a fan of tequila. I had a bad tequila experience at age 20, and since then, I can't even stand its smell. Bottled at 40% ABV. On the nose: the aroma is intriguing. Sweet initially, with significant influence from Don Julio's Tequila. Vanilla, milk chocolate; a slight hint of agave/tequila. Sugarcane. Very sweet and appealing. Straightforward but easy aroma. After the first sip, a faint orange note emerges. On the palate: Tequila. Salt. Very spicy. In a blind tasting, you wouldn't identify it as Buchanan's. It doesn't taste like whisky. It's more like a "puro" (raw spirit / moonshine). The aftertaste isn't memorable. It's short and salty. That's it. Overall, this is my least favorite Buchanan's. I don't know if this review will be popular, but I want my whisky to taste like whisky, not tequila. For me, this is a failed experiment, even though the nose scored some points. 73 out of 100.

A different journey, though not amazing. The aroma presents red apple, caramel, and vanilla, with a fruity sweetness and smoothness. The taste begins to open quickly, offering a bit of spice that's rather pleasant. Tequila notes appear in the finish but aren't prominent.

Sweet and mild with vanilla and orange notes on the aroma, same on the palate plus a little salt, agave and pepper. Short, sweet yet peppery finish.
