Brookie's Barrel Aged Mac.

Appearance: Clear, bright gold-amber shade. No solids visible. Nose: Notes of crème brûlée, cocoa, vanilla, and a whisper of smoke. Palate & Mouthfeel: Starts sweet and smooth, reminiscent of butterscotch syrup or caramel custard. The initial sweetness gives way to a fairly dry experience with chocolate, nuts, vanilla, and coffee flavors. A dry oak character envelops it all, hinting slightly at whiskey. The mouthfeel is outstanding, rich and velvety without being thick or syrupy. Some years back, I wrote about "Brookies Mac." from the same distillery. That macadamia nut liqueur was, and remains in my opinion, awful and undrinkable. I recently visited the distillery again with a couple of companions for their whiskey tour, as they have started making whiskey (and it's quite good). After the tour, we chatted with the guide and bartender, and she offered us the final three servings from their last container of this Barrel Aged macadamia liqueur. I almost declined a serving, thinking it impolite not to accept, and I'm extremely pleased I didn't. This barrel-aged expression is dramatically different from the regular liqueur and ranks among the finest liqueurs I have ever sampled. The only downside is that just one bourbon barrel was used for this, and it's no longer available. I would eagerly purchase multiple bottles if it were offered.
