Surprisingly, the Cabernet adds a rich lushness to the spirit, without much fruit. There’s an almost creaminess to this whiskey that is extremely approachable. It’s only at the tail end of the tasting that the wine character makes its presence known. An excellent expression.

About this bottle
This whiskey starts with Kentucky straight bourbon, featuring a mash bill of 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley, produced by Owensboro Distilling Co. and aged for a minimum of two years. Following the initial aging, the bourbon is transferred and blended in a tank, then further matured with specific oak staves. For this expression, 80% of the staves are sourced from former California cabernet sauvignon wine barrels, with the remaining 20% being new French oak staves. It is bottled at 88 proof, and this updated version was introduced in late January 2022.
