Wendy Valentine 3.3

The aroma clearly shows sherry notes and a whisper of port. There's honey, malt, and dried fruit. The initial taste is sweet with raisins, stone fruits, some malt extract, and mild spice. It's easy to drink and has a pleasant texture. The palate is very balanced and inviting. Finish: Medium. Fruit cake and a subtle lingering sweetness. While the bottle lacks age or cask details, the distillery's website indicates an 8-year age statement and maturation in three cask types, specifically mentioning wet PX casks. The nose and sweet initial taste certainly support this PX influence. It's a straightforward but perfectly fine sherried whisky. If I didn't know what it was, I'd guess a sherried Glen Moray, and in a blind tasting, I'd be quite sure no one would mistake it for anything other than Scotch. It reminded me of the general, yet often quite good, sherried Scotch whisky found at a discount retailer. Impossible to dislike, but not essential to acquire. Worth a try if found at a good price. “Above Average”: 82/100 (3.25 stars)
