Black Ridge Small Batch Bourbon

I was pleasantly surprised by this dram. I didn't expect to dislike it, nor did I anticipate wanting more. Given the price point, I expected the alcohol or corn mash to be dominant on the nose, but it actually had pleasant notes of vanilla and buttered oak. The mouthfeel is thin, but there's still a nice, soft vanilla on the palate and some cornbread on the finish. It's an easy sipper that doesn't require much thought. It won't impress your friends, but it's not priced to do so, so don't feel bad about buying it for an affordable drink. This one can be enjoyed on its own while watching TV, and you'll notice your glass is empty again quickly.

Served neat, from a bottle that had been opened before. The aroma is subtle, with floral and oak notes, and a slight alcohol sharpness at the end. The flavor mirrors the scent, starting softly with floral, vanilla, and red apple notes, followed by sweetness, then a hint of tartness, alcohol, and gentle cinnamon to conclude. It distinctly carries the Barton character, very similar to 1792 Small Batch. It's almost like a gentler, more refined version of Basil Hayden's, possessing less heat and sweetness.

An intense bourbon from Kentucky, made with a mash bill of corn, rye, and malted barley, plus iron-free limestone spring water. It starts aromatically with notes of caramel and spice; its rich middle adds notes of grain and honey; leading to a long, rich, and complex end. Served neat; it's sweet with a hint of spice. The finish is mildly sweet and spicy. The spice intensifies briefly before fading quickly, leaving an alcohol trace.

Evoked a younger Weller Special Reserve (green label). Quite light on the palate with a brief finish. Simple to drink and surprising for its 90 proof. Purchased for $28.95 USD.

The initial taste is subtle, with a delayed and brief burn. Overall, the flavor is not very pronounced. It's neither great nor bad. I likely won't purchase it again.
