Marissa Beebe 2.8

A friend has been encouraging me to try Indian whisky for some time. Despite approaching this tasting with apprehension, further fueled by the slow-pour spout (I've never had a great whisky poured from one) and a plastic bottle cap, I decided to remain open-minded and give it a go. Immediately on the nose, the sherry cask influence is prominent. Berries are dominant, but beyond that, there's honey, hazelnut, and a hint of vanilla. The taste starts light and sweet. The honey from the nose transitions into the taste, bringing sweet and slightly tart raspberries and a touch of spicy peppercorn. There's a slight herbal sharpness, and overall, the flavor is sweet with a bit of spice. The finish is rather monotonous. The peppercorn leads, along with some grapefruit peel. Citrus with a slight bitter edge. It's quite smooth but also a bit unmemorable. An average blended whisky accurately sums up the entire experience. This... didn't astound me. BUT, it is superior to the Korean whisky I tried years ago, though that's a fairly low benchmark. It's acceptable in a pinch and I'd categorize it similarly to other middling blends like Monkey Shoulder and Black Label.

Sanford Espinosa 3.3

Significantly better than Monkey Shoulder. A delightful sweet honey aroma, with bitter chocolate and citrus on the palate. A touch of pepper on the finish.

Ken Ware 3.5

A very good, budget-friendly blend. Ideal for mixing in cocktails.
