Beagle Rare Kentucky Howl 2019

Sample received. Won at auction supporting St. Jude. This is the final blend of the Beagle Rare collaboration, mixed by Kentucky Owl's Dixon Dedman. On the nose, the experience is completely different from the original blend, which had chocolate and dominant peanut butter notes. This version is much lighter and brighter, with vanilla ice cream and apples. As it opens up, it begins to shift, revealing graham cracker crust, caramel custard, sweet cherry sauce, blueberries, and cinnamon. It returns to apples, but like candied apple. No peanut remains from the original blend. Now, the bright notes are becoming dominant again. It's an interesting one to analyze. It has a creamy smooth texture, with sweet cherry cola on the tongue. It takes you on a bit of a journey. It starts dark with more oak than I anticipated. Cherry cola reappears, along with nice cinnamon apple. More caramel and cherry follow. The oak returns and lingers for quite some time. The oak on the nose is more prominent than it was before tasting. I'm also getting some salted pretzel now. The legs on this are the best feature. Flavors (oak and cherry cola) are still present many minutes later. A fun pour! It's hard to imagine how this blend started dominated by peanut butter and ended with a great fruit-filled, oaky experience. I have a bit of each sample left to enjoy tonight. I'm glad I could be part of this experience and support a good cause.

Received as a sample from an auction benefiting St. Jude, created by a master mixer and renowned whiskey taster. This blend was a community project for the WhiskeyTube group. On the nose: charred caramel, vanilla frosting, and peanut shells, with hints of mint and chocolate developing over time. Also detected are pleasant strawberries and buttery pie crust, and even some cotton candy. Texture is syrupy and thick. Very dark on the palate. Flavors of brown sugar and black cherry dominate, with chocolate lingering prominently. The mid-palate delivers a strong burst of peanut butter and a touch of those strawberries, alongside charred caramel and oak. It's surprisingly well-balanced throughout. Returning to the nose, the peanut butter becomes more pronounced. An excellent blend from Old Sharter distillery. I thoroughly enjoyed all the flavors; it's well-balanced and engaging. The nose offers much to explore, and the taste delivers.
