The aroma of vanilla and cinnamon has a slight sting. It also carries a mineral scent, akin to damp stone. Having tasted Dickel, I now recognize this as their characteristic note. Oak underlies everything. Sweet molasses and wood flavors are present, with a sharp burn on the tongue. The heat quickly fades to a pleasant warmth that persists through the mid-length finish. A sweet sensation remains, followed by a lingering mineral taste. This whiskey displays a wide range of flavors, likely due to its blend of high and low rye content. You get the spice from the Kentucky and Indiana spirits, contrasted by the sweet and mineral notes from the corn-heavy Dickel spirit. It's good—unexpected, but good.

Received an unmarked sample from a friend. Glass: Glencairn, let it rest for 15 minutes. Appearance: Medium amber. Nose: Honey, caramel, apple. Palate: Clove and baking spices. Finish: Moderate duration with moderate warmth. With water: The spice mellows, revealing oak and leather. General impression: 7/10 - The aroma is promising but doesn't fully translate. The finish suggests a higher proof, but it could be more nuanced.

This is an intense cinnamon experience, perfect after a good meal. It diverges from a typical bourbon profile but delivers a powerful and well-rounded spicy character from start to finish unlike any other whiskey I've tried. While I lean towards batch 017, which aligns better with my usual preferences, Barrel 018 offers a unique and memorable journey.

The aroma brings leather and burned barrel wood to mind. The first taste brings smooth vanilla and a touch of cherry to my tongue. This whiskey is very smooth and certainly worth sampling.

Named best small batch bourbon of the year, yet it's slightly off for my taste... cinnamon is prominent throughout. The long finish has spice, but I'm seeking more sweet honey flavors.
