In the summer of 2015, Eastside Distilling, based in Portland, introduced two new whiskeys: Barrel Hitch American Whiskey and Barrel Hitch ‘Oregon Oak’ American Whiskey. Both are sourced whiskeys selected from specific barrels. The latter undergoes a secondary aging process in barrels crafted from Oregon oak, an indigenous drought-tolerant tree species of the Pacific Northwest. This secondary maturation period ranges from one to four months before the whiskey is bottled at 44% ABV.

On the nose, hints of caramel apple are veiled by ethyl fumes. The palate is agreeably sweet, with a more substantial body than the original spirit. It has a slightly buttery texture, but doesn't become syrupy. A touch of vanilla and tannins appear to join the flavor profile. Fruitiness hints at making an appearance in the finish, but stays back.
88 proof specialty spirit. Matured spirits from famous distilleries are blended, with an average age of 5.5 years. Oregon Oak, rich in tannins and vanillin, is prominent here. Medium Plus mouthfeel. Nose: Burnt sugar, vanilla, mineral. Taste: Moderate heat, caramel, cooked corn. Suitable for sipping or enhancing cocktails.
