Amrut ranks among my preferred distilleries. Therefore, I had no hesitation selecting this bottle from a large liquor store during my recent visit to the United States. I was fortunate to acquire a special limited edition of their cask strength Amrut, matured in former rum casks. Presented at 60% ABV with a golden hue. The aroma is intensely nutty, featuring notes of almonds, pecans, and coffee, along with Ferrero Rocher chocolate. Following the initial taste, the chocolate aroma became much more pronounced and intensified significantly, revealing molasses and hazelnut, alongside sawdust and dulce de leche. The palate offers quince, molasses, and other sweet red fruit flavors, complemented by vanilla, almonds, and toffee. The finish was exquisite, with hints of ginger, dark chocolate with salt, and almonds. This is a truly sophisticated drink. In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed this whisky, much like most Amruts. It didn't quite evoke the character of a rum cask-matured spirit, instead presenting as a sweet, chocolatey, and almond-forward dram. I highly recommend acquiring it if you encounter it. My rating is 92 out of 100.
