American Barrels Bourbon

I purchased this some time ago because I liked the bottle and found it on sale for around $25, so I decided to try it. First off, the bottle is distinctive with a snake wrapped around a shotgun shell. The bourbon inside is decent to above average, depending on your preferences. In the glass, it has a light tan color with notes of vanilla and cream, and it appears thin. The body is nice and smooth, with more creaminess emerging along with a bit of oak and something else I can't quite identify. It has a medium-length finish, lingering pleasantly the entire time. The finish is nice with no bitterness. This spirit works well in an Old Fashioned, with the flavors holding their own in the cocktail. In a Manhattan, I had to be careful with the vermouth so it wouldn't overwhelm the bourbon. Overall, this is a solid to above-average bourbon in a novelty bottle that I could definitely see giving as a gift, especially to someone who doesn't prefer bold bourbons or whiskeys. Enjoy.

Visually, the bottle is stunning; the Gadsden rattler coiled around a large shotgun shell is eye-catching, and I admit I bought it for the bottle. The bourbon itself is mediocre at best. The color is more yellow than amber. The aroma is alright, with a faint woody scent. I was incredibly let down by the taste. The tongue primarily registered corn with some mild caramel and a strong alcohol blast at the end. It was more like drinking flavored moonshine than bourbon. I'm not a fan of artificially aged bourbon, and this one didn't change my mind. I'll drink it, then use the bottle for better-tasting bourbon in a less attractive container.

The aroma on this spirit is reminiscent of sweet corn mash, much like a white dog. It starts with corn, then quickly shifts to flour before being overwhelmed by alcohol. It's not appealing. The taste brings a young woody character. The vanilla typically found in bourbon is absent. The flavor is also quite grainy. Once again, the alcohol dominates the rest of the profile. It's been aged too long for a white dog, yet not long enough for a bourbon.

I need more time with this one... as the owner said, "the best part about is the bottle," and so far, that's true... It's more drinkable for me than Beam. It has a sort of sourdough taste (?). It's better after drinking something I like than before something I like - oh, and the bottle is very cool. P.S. My kid also attended IU, so I wanted to offer a little support.

Damn. Hard to say this is a bourbon. More like straight unaged corn spirit. Plenty of ethanol throughout, and a faint cream taste on the finish, but the 75% corn mash bill quickly takes over. Might be good if it spent a few more years aging. The bottle is cool, though.

The bottle is fantastic! It'll be a great vessel for my infinity bottle once empty! The whiskey is 70% corn, which I don't care for. Very harsh. For 86 proof, it's got a kick! I would absolutely NOT recommend! It's not bad in a cocktail, though, because it holds its own thanks to the high corn/rye mash bill! Cheers!
