Laws Four Grain Straight Bourbon Cask Strength

The aroma is strong with ethanol. It's a substantial spirit, with wheat being the primary grain. Black licorice is very noticeable, along with an earthy, grassy character. Upon first taste, there are very faint traces of honey, possibly citrus, and vanilla. A previous comment suggested a resemblance to Scotch, and I concur. The unique 4-grain mash bill might explain why it differs from typical bourbon. Batch B-23.

The aroma is quite complex. Rich pipe tobacco and rye spice, softened by oak and red fruits. The taste is vibrant and intense. More rye. Caramel and oak. Herbal spice notes emerge as it concludes. There's a lot happening after first opening the bottle. I'll definitely revisit this one after it has had some time to settle. A good pour!

A very fine young bourbon that doesn't present as such. It bears a strong resemblance to a quality bourbon from a specific producer. Features pleasant brown sugar and mouthfeel, with nice apple, cherry, and chocolate orange notes. The finish is quite good and fairly lengthy. The top bourbons from Colorado originate from Laws.

The integration of the components from these four grains has won me over. Revisiting this bottle is a pleasure. I have since acquired another. It's top-tier and suitable for special occasions. The balance among the rye, wheat, corn, and barley is perfect. It's simply a wonderful whiskey, truly impressive.

Off-putting and not very pleasant. The aroma is decent, but it strongly smells of ethanol, and not in a good way. The initial taste is light, but then it hits you in the middle of your palate with ethanol and heat, again, not in a good way. It's too intense without enough flavor or complexity to make it enjoyable. Definitely avoid.

I enjoyed it years ago but wasn't overly impressed. Purchasing a bottle again after not seeing it for ages has been a revelation. It's far more subtle and layered (in both aroma and flavor) than I recall. Absolutely remarkable.
