2XO The Phoenix Blend

The rye character shines through brilliantly. The extra oak aging somewhat mellows the spice, adding a drier, wood-dominated profile. Butterscotch, light vanilla, caramel, and dark rye toast flavors harmonize into a solid whiskey. The finish is quite prolonged, with considerable wood presence at the end. Definitely a sipper; it softens with lighter baking spice notes when enjoyed with a large ice cube. We eagerly anticipate future releases from Dixon's.

Brown sugar and maple syrup upfront with a hint of candied pears. Then it's all oak. Added an ice cube to let it open up; some faint sweet flavors, fruit, and honey tried to emerge from behind the oak.

The aroma has spicy oak with dark fruits and red apple. The palate is distinctly rye, with barrel spices, pepper, and more oak, leading to a long yet smooth finish. It's distinctive and engaging.

Sweet initially. Dry spice in the middle with a slight charred flavor lingering on the palate. Very smooth.

Notes of dried fruit and mild spice. A bit pricey, but certainly an enjoyable bottle.

The sweetness feels too faint to me, with a mild vanilla. It's more earthy and oak-forward.
