Tonight's selection is 1835 Bourbon Single Barrel. I'm fond of 1835 because it was among the first bourbons I sampled. This one delivers a strong vanilla and nutty punch to the palate, accompanied by a sharp burn and a warm, lasting finish. It's not complex and doesn't offer much else. I value its straightforwardness.
A blind sample from a friend. Nose: sweet honey, mango, detectable alcohol, faint raspberries. Palate: pear juice, apple juice, raw oak. Finish: short and sweet, a combination of mixed nuts and sliced pears. Score: 74/100.
Very mild and indistinguishable from other less costly Texas bourbons. Superior to the standard 1835, but forgettable when compared to Balcones, TX, Rebecca Creek, and others.
On the nose: Vanilla, oak, cinnamon. On the palate: the above with nuts and orange, smooth but with a hot finish, a great combination of warmth and smoothness overall.
Aroma of vanilla, plant life, cinnamon, pear, toast, and oak. Flavors include rich vanilla, oak, cinnamon, and black pepper. A spicy finish.
It has a clear amber color. The scent is oaky. It tastes sweet (buttery) and spicy (earthy), with a long finish.
