Blind comparison: Four Roses single barrel versus 1792 single barrel, Fry's pick. Dram 1 (Four Roses) - Nose: Lightly sweet with floral notes, hints of fruit, and a very small amount of ethanol. Dram 2 (1792) - Nose: A smooth, fruity aroma with a subtle spice. It presents a well-balanced nose, equally fruity, spicy, and sweet. This isn't necessarily the best quality as I appreciate some unique notes sometimes, but you certainly can't dislike this whiskey's aroma. Dram 1 taste - Sweet, grainy, mild spice with a bit of ethanol. A lightly sweet and spicy finish. I also detect a slight mineral candy or vitamin note tonight. Dram 2 taste - Smooth, sweet, spicy, and very well-balanced. It almost seems like a blend. It has a great mix of spice, sweetness, and fruit, but nothing stands out prominently. It's definitely an easy sipper with a nice medium body and a sweet, spicy finish. Tonight, the 1792 wins. I believe the Four Roses takes more risks, and I appreciate that, but this single barrel was a bit too strong and overly grainy. The 1792 is a Fry's pick, and that might be significant.

A bold punch, with a lasting spice, heavy and completely satisfying. It has a woody character, but not oaky.
