1792 Ridgemont Reserve Bourbon (NAS)

I've likely had this bottle since the first year it had no age statement, but I honestly forgot about it in the basement. Opened it tonight with a friend who only drinks Balvenie to celebrate not being dead. Hindsight being 20/20, this probably wasn't the best choice. I appreciate the boldness upfront but it leaves me wondering where the rest of the whiskey is. Higher proof, strong pepper and spice that left almost a burning sensation on the tip of my tongue. A little water seems to help; otherwise, the flavor is shallow barrel tannins, spice, and herbal oils. I wouldn't purchase this again for the price, but heck, I don't remember buying it the first time.

Mine is a 1792 Ridgemont Reserve store single barrel pick, no age statement. The initial straight tasting really emphasizes the high rye content, with nice spice followed by hints of caramel and vanilla, and a long finish. Adding a few drops of water truly enhances the sweeter notes.

This is not a bad bourbon, but it wasn't particularly good for me either. The nose doesn't offer much, and the body tasted rather medicinal. You can detect the rye spice and the alcohol burn on the finish. I'll try this only once.

Tried a pour at a local tavern. Light and spicy accurately describes this one. Not much flavor on the palate. Very simple. Most of the spice and burn is on the finish. An average dram at best.

Sweet caramel. Mild spice. Light body. Somewhat one-dimensional.
