The cost of Japanese whiskies has gone through the roof lately, and releases such as the Yamazaki Limited Edition are incredibly hard to find. It greets you with a sophisticated mix of rich sherry, subtle spices, and ripe fruit. Notes of sandalwood, incense, and a touch of matcha blend with leather, melon, and a whisper of plum liqueur. Bold and fragrant on entry, it becomes sweet and spicy on the palate, consistently well-rounded. Lingering flavors of cherries, prunes, and gentle tannins define the finish. An excellent whisky, though excessively expensive. RATING: 4.2/5.0 stars ≙ 89 pts → FIRST-CLASS [+]

A rich, blended single malt crafted and matured at Yamazaki, Japan's inaugural malt distillery. A symphony of Sherry, Port, and Bourbon cask influences, with some single malts aged over two decades in Sherry Casks, alongside 'Young Talents' single malts matured in Bourbon Barrels. It begins with notes of passion fruit and strawberry, while the palate is sweet and jam-like with added oak undertones, culminating in a long and complex finish featuring hints of honey, licorice, tea, and exotic fruits. The oak aging was very noticeable.
