Wilderness Trail 8 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon (High Rye Bourbon)

Nose is nicely pungent with sweet oak tannins, vanilla, caramel, sweet corn, and cinnamon sugar. Very traditional. Palate matches the nose with again a very traditional palate of vanilla, caramel, oak, leather, tobacco, and spice. Everything blends well, but the overall flavor is somewhat simple. Medium length finish is where things get interesting with sweet oak, a surprising and welcome cherry note, some nutmeg, orange peel, and white pepper. Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied. The drying effect makes you want another sip. Definitely the highlight of this whiskey. A bourbon that I think tries to highlight an aged oak profile but might still be a little too young. Paid $90, and while the price isn't unreasonable, it didn't wow me either. That said, this is a decent whiskey, and I eagerly anticipate Wilderness Trail reaching the point of releasing ten-year expressions, which might just be the sweet spot.

It has a medium-length finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and medium-bodied. The drying sensation leaves you wanting more.

The nose is quite pleasant, featuring blackberry, lemon, and a touch of baking spices, reminiscent of a fresh pastry. The palate is more robust than anticipated, but quickly transitions to a very pleasing, long yet subtle finish. Hints of banana bread and brown sugar are present throughout. It drinks a bit warmer and lingers longer than expected for its proof, which is a positive attribute.
