Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka

I had this vodka about ten years ago and recall it came with a chocolate liqueur. This bottle has remained sealed in my amaro cabinet for at least six years, possibly longer. It was stored in the back near the Rum Jumbie, beside the Galliano and Frangelico. I'm currently tasting through all the unusual spirits I've collected. The pour is a dark coffee color, showing slight sheeting and small, rapid tears after swirling. The nose is pleasantly sweet with a dominant coffee aroma. Chocolate and caramel notes are present but are secondary and subdued compared to the coffee, which is more like coffee syrup than espresso. The taste truly matches the nose. It's sweet coffee with caramel and a very faint chocolate hint on the exhale after swallowing. It's not unpleasant, and I can understand why the initial bottles at my home bar were quickly consumed as iced sippers before dinner or in bold shots after a show. This is a versatile flavor. It's not complex, and I wouldn't drink it neat, but I would certainly enjoy it on the rocks or with a bit of soda. If you appreciate coffee and enjoy trying new things, this is among the better flavored vodkas I've encountered, and that's a very short list.
