During the early 1980s, Tomatin Distillery was Scotland's largest, equipped with twenty-three stills and an annual output of twelve million liters, primarily for blends. This volume proved unsustainable amidst the challenging whisky market of the mid- to late-twentieth century, which nearly led to the distillery's closure. Production was reduced in 1986, initiating a period of divestment that lasted nearly two decades. In 2000, the distillery was acquired by the Japanese trading firm Marubeni, which, in collaboration with another Japanese company, revitalized the brand. The Twenty-Five Year expression, launched in 2005 during this revival, brought international recognition to the distillery. This whisky, matured for over twenty-five years in refill Bourbon barrels, marks Tomatin's significant debut on the global stage. It is bottled at 43% ABV.

Eyes: deep yellow golf - very pleasing shade Nose: honey notes, floral, slight nuttiness, very slight hint of petrol - super pleasing Mouth: opens with more honey, spices (cloves, nutmeg), slight hint of Sauternes and moves on to wood, light pepper. Finishes with light cigar butt and lingering honey and raisin - long finish
For a 28-year-old spirit, it gets 3 stars. Taste-wise, I'd give it 4 stars. I detect sherry cask influence, despite the description mentioning bourbon. It has hints of peat and sea air, reminding me of Bowmore 12.
