The Old Malt Cask Glengoyne

Purchased at a store in California based on a high recommendation from their staff who stated "Amazing!". My impression after sampling 1/4 of the bottle by 10-26-2020 (11 months) is that it has a very light color, showing poor quality from reused casks. How many times reused? Don't know, but this is one of the lightest whiskies I've ever purchased. Tasting impressions: Very weak and unmemorable flavor with a strong alcohol burn, like a much younger whisky. It blows my mind that this has this level of alcohol burn for 21 years. I just have to believe this tastes more like a cheap 12-year-old because of the severe burn. A different Islay Barley at 6 years has much less burn and more flavor than this inferior bottling. Other brands should be ashamed to sell this rubbish! Feel ripped off on these special store bottlings just for them. I personally will never buy these obscure whiskies again and will not trust those store reviews. Just my experience. Yours may be different. Very disappointed in the 4 bottles of special releases they were promoting as amazing. More like barrels the distillers were trying to get rid of because it was not good enough for their main lineup!

Very spirit-forward but improves significantly with a bit of water and an hour after pouring. Flavors of apple, cocoa, vanilla, butter, white chocolate, and ginger. Lightly fruity and floral.
