Oh my god this was a bad whisky. An expensive (250$) beautiful bottle, Macallan Aera Royal Black is an expression that only came out for the Taiwan travel exclusive market, in order for Macallan to enter that country with strength... I don't think they have accomplished it. I am not a fan of Macallan but I did not expect it to be so bad. I organized a tasting event and this was the main attraction... and it disappointed everyone. Bottled at 40%abv On the nose, it WAS AMAZING. and that is how it scored the only 2 stars it has. White Kit Kat chocolate, pineapple, grapefruit, Lime, old pineapple slices, sawdust. On the palate, it was not good. There are some very dim almonds and white chocolate somewhere there but it is mostly WATER AND LETTUCE. Have you ever found Lettuce notes in your whisky? Well, they are just bad. There is no aftertaste. Not one note. It is like drinking water. ZERO POINTS. Not one note. Overall this is terrible. If it weren't for the nose, this whisky could even have a lower score. I was at a tasting event, so 20 people agree on this. Luckily we had another 3 drams, and that saved the night. This is one of the worst whiskies I have ever had, avoid it, don't waste your money. 43 out of 100 (scoring notes: nose 23, palate 10, finish 0, balance 10).

Truly a poor whisky. An expensive ($250) attractive bottle, Macallan Aera Royal Black is an expression created solely for the Taiwan travel exclusive market, intended for Macallan's strong entry into that country... I doubt they succeeded. While not a devoted fan of Macallan, I didn't anticipate it being this bad. I hosted a tasting event, and this was the centerpiece... it let everyone down. Bottled at 40% ABV On the nose, it WAS AMAZING. And that's how it earned its sole two stars. White Kit Kat chocolate, pineapple, grapefruit, Lime, aged pineapple slices, sawdust. On the palate, it was not good. There are some very faint almonds and white chocolate present, but it's mostly WATER AND LETTUCE. Have you ever encountered lettuce notes in your whisky? They are simply awful. There is no aftertaste. Not a single note. It's like drinking water. ZERO POINTS. Not one note. Overall, this is dreadful. Without the nose, this whisky might have received an even lower score. I was at a tasting event, so 20 people concur. Fortunately, we had three other drams, which salvaged the evening. This ranks among the worst whiskies I've ever experienced; steer clear, don't waste your money. 43 out of 100 (scoring breakdown: nose 23, palate 10, finish 0, balance 10).

A pleasant pour showing Raspberry, Toffee, Floral, Apricot, Sultanas, and Chocolate notes. The palate feels thin.

Kenton Rosado 4.3

Less oak-forward than the 12, but it certainly has character and is better balanced. A pleasant, easily drinkable 92.

Marie Monroy 4.5

Very nice woody notes, it nearly makes me feel like I'm drinking exceptional wine
